Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us
Sensable is built by a parent of an autistic young adult — we understand how important trust and privacy are for our community. This policy explains clearly what we collect, why, and how we protect it.
📍 Information We Collect
We collect only what's necessary to make Sensable work:
Email address and display name (when you create an account)
GPS location (only when actively using the app — to find nearby venues and verify noise readings)
Sensory reviews you submit (noise, lighting, crowd, clutter ratings)
Noise level readings you contribute (dB measurements taken on-site)
Saved venues and app preferences
Anonymous usage data (which screens you visit, to improve the app)
🎯 How We Use Your Information
Your data is used exclusively to operate and improve Sensable:
Display sensory ratings and venue information on the map
Verify you are physically at a venue before accepting noise readings
Save your preferences and favorite venues across devices
Award contribution badges for community participation
Improve app features based on aggregated usage patterns
🚫 We never sell your data. We never share your personal information with advertisers. Sensable is ad-free.
📡 Location Data
Location access is used in two ways:
Venue search — to find venues near you (only when you open the app)
Noise measurement verification — to confirm you are physically at a venue before submitting a dB reading
We do not track your location in the background. Location is only accessed when you actively use the app. Your precise coordinates are never stored — only used momentarily for distance calculations.
🔐 Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase, protected by industry-standard encryption
All data is transmitted over HTTPS
Only your display name is publicly visible on reviews — never your email or location
Anonymous guest sessions are supported — no account required to browse venues
👥 User-Generated Content
Reviews and noise readings you submit become part of the Sensable community database. Your display name appears alongside your reviews. You can delete your reviews at any time from within the app.
We reserve the right to remove content that is inaccurate, offensive, or violates our community guidelines.
👶 Children's Privacy
Sensable is designed for users of all ages including families with autistic children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. Parents may create accounts to use the app on behalf of their children.
Go to your Profile screen in the app → tap Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, reviews, and all personal data within 30 days. You can also email privacy@getsensable.app for manual deletion.
Location is used for two things: finding venues near you on the map, and verifying you are physically at a venue before accepting a noise reading. We never track your location in the background and never store your precise coordinates.
Yes. You can browse venues and read sensory reviews without an account. Creating a free account lets you submit reviews, save venues, measure noise levels, and earn contribution badges.
Sensory scores are averages of community reviews across four dimensions: noise, lighting, crowd density, and clutter. Each dimension is rated 1–5. Scores update automatically as new reviews are submitted. A minimum of one review is needed to show a score.
Tap the venue on the map → open Reviews → tap the flag icon on any review. Our team reviews flagged content within 48 hours. You can also email support@getsensable.app with the venue name and details.
During our beta period, Sensory Aware listings are added manually. Email venues@getsensable.app with your venue name, address, and the sensory accommodations you offer. We'll be in touch within 3 business days.
First, check your internet connection and location permissions in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Sensable. If the problem persists, try a different search term or restart the app. Contact support@getsensable.app if the issue continues.
